Frequently Asked Questions

•Is SGS the same as SBRS?
-Stamford Girls Softball is the new name for Stamford Babe Ruth Softball and is still affiliated with Babe Ruth Softball.

DO I HAVE TO REGISTER ONLINE?
-Online registration is strongly suggested, but if you would prefer to send in a manual registration form, you may find a form on the Documents Page of our website.  Please send your check made payable to SBRS, PO Box 3093, Stamford, CT.

•IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE I NEED TO DO TO COMPLETE THE REGISTRATION?
-If your daughter is new to SGS, please complete the Online registration and send a copy of her birth certificate along with a copy of your completed registration form to SBRS. We must receive the birth certificate before the first game or she will not be allowed to play.

•IS MY DAUGHTER GUARANTEED A ROSTER SPOT ON A TEAM?
-Provided she is pre-registered, all Rookies, Minis and Minors are guaranteed to be on a team. Late registrations will be placed on teams in the order they are received to fill out the team roster spots. However, late registrations are not guaranteed to be on a team.

•MY DAUGHTER WANTS TO BE ON THE TEAM THAT HER FRIEND IS ON. CAN THIS BE DONE?
-We only permit this in the "Rookie" Divisions. Please indicate on your Rookie registration form that you'd like to be placed with a friend and specify the friend. Best efforts will be made to accomodate this request. (FOR THE ROOKIE DIVISION ONLY)

•DOES MY DAUGHTER HAVE TO TRY OUT FOR THE LEAGUE?
- Tryouts are required for all NEW players to the league and players moving up to a new division (except Rookies) . Rookies are automatically placed on a team.

•WHAT SHOULD MY DAUGHTER WEAR TO THE TRYOUTS?
-All girls trying out (Minis & Minors) should wear sneakers and comfortable clothes and bring their softball mitt. Bats will be supplied but if you prefer, you may use your own bat.

•WHEN AND HOW OFTEN ARE PRACTICES?
-The practice schedule for each team is totally up to its manager. In general for the minis and minors, you should count on at least 2 practices per week before the season starts and, depending on the manager, some practices during the season.

•WHERE, WHEN AND HOW OFTEN ARE GAMES?
-Most games are played at the Troy Fields in Cove Island Park, occasionally a game will be played at Newfield School.  For directions, please see the
directions link on this site.
-Rookies play Saturday and Sunday mornings from 8:30am - 9:45am. The season will begin April 24th and continue through the beginning of June.
-Minis & Minors play at 5:45pm and 7:30pm on weekday evenings and between 9:30am and 7:30pm on Saturdays, Sundays and Holidays. You will average between 2 and 3 games per week. The Mini and Minor seasons will start April 19 and continue through the beginning of June. (No games will be scheduled during spring vacation week.)
-The Majors season start is contingent upon the end of the local high school seasons. Generally it falls around the second week of June and there are 15 games scheduled for each team over the course of about 3 weeks.
-No schedule has been set for the Seniors.

•IS THERE A MUST-PLAY RULE AT SBRS?
-Yes. In all House Leagues all girls must play at least 2 innings in the field and have at least 1 at-bat. All Rookies play the entire game.

•CAN MY DAUGHTER TRYOUT FOR THE SBRS ALL-STAR/TRAVEL TEAMS?
-Yes. As long as your daughter has played in a 2009 SBRS House League, she is eligible to tryout for her age-appropriate All-Star/Travel Team. Of course, not all girls will make that team. NO PLAYER IS ELIGIBLE TO TRY OUT FOR OR PARTICIPATE ON AN ALL-STAR/TRAVEL TEAM IF SHE HAS NOT ALREADY PARTICIPATED ON A 2009 SBRS HOUSE TEAM.

•WHAT IF I HAVE MORE QUESTIONS ABOUT THESE OR ANY OTHER SBRS ISSUES?
-Please contact Charles Pia of SBRS at
or call Charles at 203.667-2174.
